Pride is an infectious and dangerous attitude affecting so many people in this day and age.  Where does pride come from?  How does this kind of attitude affect you and your walk with God?  How does it affect others around you every day?  Let us search the scriptures together for knowledge, wisdom, and truth that comes only from God, Himself.

 

Saddam Hussein considered himself to be the reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar[33] and had the inscription "To King Nebuchadnezzar in the reign of Saddam Hussein" inscribed on bricks inserted into the walls of the ancient city of Babylon during a reconstruction project he initiated;[34] he named one of his Republican Guards divisions after Nebuchadnezzar.[35]

 

Jeremiah 13:9 Thus saith the Lord, After this manner, will I mar the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

 

Jeremiah 48:29 We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

 

Job 33:17   That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. Job 35:12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men. Job 41:15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. Job 41:34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

Pride affects all of us at various times and in various degrees. Now you can see why the building in Lehi’s dream that represents the pride of the world was large and spacious and great was the multitude that did enter into it. (See 1 Ne. 8:26, 33; 1 Ne. 11:35–36.)

Pride is the universal sin, the great vice. Yes, pride is the universal sin, the great vice.

The antidote for pride is humility—meekness, submissiveness. (See Alma 7:23.) It is the broken heart and contrite spirit. (See 3 Ne. 9:20; 3 Ne. 12:19; D&C 20:37; D&C 59:8; Ps. 34:18; Isa. 57:15; Isa. 66:2.)
